Hello Global you must have considered asanas and exercise to be same . But they are not the same. Though all of these are aimed at maintaining and improving health and achieving physical fitness, few understand the DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ASANAS AND EXERCISES. So here i go:-
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ASANAS AND EXERCISES
Asanas is a science as well as the art of living for healthy, happy and prosperous life. Its effects are mostly internal. Regular practice of asanas develops and purifies body and mind to the optimal level. It develops ability to control our sense organs to function properly. It relaxes our stresses and tensions to lead a peaceful life.
These are slow stretching activities in which heart rate , breathing and body temp. remain normal. The effects of asanas are internally felt and not observed externally. It improves physical and mental ability to great extent. It increases the concentration and controls our behavior. To show the positive effects of asanas, is a long process whereas the results are permanent. It also cures various diseases and chronic health problems, thus it is therapeutic effects. It improves physical fitness along with good health to a good extent.
Asanas should be performed in duration of 30 seconds to 2 minutes while performing the breath should be controlled. It should not be performed immediately after meal.

We should perform exercises in a regular routine. If the regularity is broken it affects physical fitnesss. Our body is a different type of machine which improves and develops with regular exercise. So we must perform physical exercises regularly to maintain our physical fitness.
Exercises are fast activities in which heart rate, breathing rate and body temperature increase. The effects are external and observable like increase in muscle mass, faster reflex actions and good neuro-muscular co-ordination.
The effects of exercises are for shorter period (as compared to asanas) and can be measured. It also improves physical fitness and wellness.
